The Symington Building combines heritage front-of-house spaces with standard back-of-house and offices across four floors. Fluorescent failures were rising, energy costs climbing, and the building had sustainability targets to meet. Working hours were restricted: heritage areas were day-only and required careful product selection. Sign-off involved NG Bailey’s regional director, the council MD, and the board.
ASG carried out a full site inventory and Relux design modelling before any product decisions were made. Lux levels were mapped area by area, and sample fittings were approved before manufacturing began. The product strategy split by zone: high-efficiency LED fittings from Lightforms and QVIS in back-of-house and offices; higher-specification fittings in the heritage front-of-house, with Bluetooth controls throughout.
A day team worked through heritage areas; a night team covered the remaining floors, with the controls engineer commissioning each zone as it completed. Mid-project, the client changed the paint finish on 150 bespoke fittings already manufactured. Standard lead time: six weeks. ASG’s supply chain returned them to site in one week, on programme, at no additional cost.
