ASG was engaged to modernise the bedroom air conditioning at the Haymarket Hub Hotel, replacing and upgrading systems across 179 bedrooms over seven floors, along with communal areas. The work formed the initial replacement programme, with provision built in to extend to a further 63 bedrooms once the hotel’s planned expansion completes, so existing and future rooms would run to the same standard. The challenge was delivering a modern, efficient system in a working hotel while designing in headroom for what came next.
ASG installed a Hybrid VRF system, which pairs the strengths of VRF with features of a chiller system. Running as a two-pipe heat recovery system, with water between the Hybrid Branch Controllers and the indoor units, it allows simultaneous heating and cooling while holding energy efficiency. For a hotel, the decisive advantage is that Hybrid VRF removes the need for refrigerant leak detection, which makes it safer and cheaper to run over the building’s life.
The installation modernised the bedroom air conditioning across all 179 rooms and the communal areas, with the system sized and configured so the future 63 bedrooms can be added on the same basis when the expansion completes.
