— LOW-CARBON PLANT UPGRADE · BREEAM, OFF-SITE FABRICATED

145 City Road, London

Engineering-led principal contractors

The Challenge

BASEMENT PLANT ROOM · SUSTAINABILITY TARGET
A basement plant upgrade to move off gas boilers and lift the building’s BREEAM rating.

ASG was tasked with installing alternative fuel boilers and inverter-driven pumps in the basement plant room at 145 City Road, to improve efficiency and achieve a higher BREEAM rating. The work sat within the wider move away from gas boilers towards more sustainable installations, so the brief was as much about long-term efficiency and maintainability as about the kit itself.

The Approach

ASG worked closely with the design team to develop an efficient, sustainable solution, considering how the plant would be maintained after handover, not just installed. The team used off-site fabrication for the plant, which removed hot work from site, improved quality control, accelerated the programme and held manufacturing to a controlled factory standard, before installation in the basement plant room.

The Outcome

The basement plant room now runs alternative fuel boilers and inverter-driven pumps, supporting a higher BREEAM rating and the building’s move away from gas, with off-site fabrication keeping hot work off site.
